Why We Love Jamie Kay: A Brand Worth Knowing

If there’s one brand that stops us in our tracks every single season, it’s Jamie Kay.
Based in New Zealand, Jamie Kay has quietly become one of the most beloved children’s clothing labels in the world — and once you dress your little one in a piece, it’s not hard to understand why. There’s a softness to everything they make. A thoughtfulness. A sense that someone genuinely cared about every tiny detail, from the way a ruffle sits to the way a colour feels in real light.

Made to Be Lived In

Jamie Kay pieces are beautiful, but they’re not precious. The fabrics are soft and breathable — designed for little bodies that need to move, explore, and yes, occasionally roll in the grass. The construction is quality you can feel, which means these pieces hold up wash after wash and often get passed down to younger siblings or cousins. That alone makes them worth every penny.

The Aesthetic Is Timeless

Soft florals. Delicate heart prints. Dusty pinks, warm creams, and gentle earth tones. Jamie Kay has a distinct visual language that never feels trendy — it feels enduring. Their pieces photograph beautifully, but more importantly, they look just as lovely in real life on a Tuesday morning at the park.

Details That Make You Stop and Look

Embroidered hearts on wide-leg overalls. Ruffle trim on the back of a tulle dress. Tie-shoulder straps on a linen cami set. Jamie Kay understands that children’s clothing can be genuinely artful without being impractical. Every collection feels considered, like a little capsule of childhood wonder.

Pieces That Mix and Match Effortlessly

One of the things we love most is how well Jamie Kay pieces work together — and with other wardrobe staples. A ruffled blouse layers beautifully under their overalls. A tiered tulle dress pairs perfectly with simple Mary Janes and a small bow clip. Getting dressed in the morning becomes so much easier when your pieces are designed to belong together.

For Every Little Moment

From poolside afternoons to garden parties to lazy morning play — Jamie Kay has a piece for every moment of childhood. That’s what makes building a wardrobe around this brand feel so effortless.

Jamie Kay Sizing Guide

One of the most common questions we get about Jamie Kay is sizing. Here's what we've found after carrying the brand for several seasons.

Jamie Kay sizes are based on height and tend to run true to size for most children. The fit is relaxed and comfortable — there's room for little bodies to move without pieces looking oversized. If your child is between sizes, we'd suggest sizing up rather than down, particularly for dresses and rompers where length matters.

The brand sizes from newborn (NB) through size 12, with clear height-based guidance on each product page. For reference: size 1 fits approximately 80cm, size 2 fits approximately 92cm, and so on upward. Modal pieces (the Henley Tees, the everyday leggings) have a little more stretch and forgiveness than woven pieces.

When in doubt, reach out — we're happy to help you find the right fit before you order.

Our Favourite Jamie Kay Pieces Right Now

A few pieces we keep coming back to this season:

The Adalyn Dress in Blushed Rose is exactly the kind of piece Jamie Kay does best — a beautifully cut dress in a dusty, grown-up blush that somehow still feels entirely childlike. The ruffle strap detail is perfect.

The Muslin Winnie Dress in Willow Rose is the summer dress of our dreams — lightweight, floral, and the kind of thing that photographs beautifully at golden hour whether you're at a garden party or a Tuesday park visit.

The Modal Henley Tee is the everyday essential that earns its place. Soft modal fabric, a classic henley neckline, and the kind of quality that survives the washing machine in a way that cheaper tees simply don't.

The Evie Swimsuit in Mon Amour Red — a heart-print one-piece in the most beautiful red. UPF 50+ and made from recycled fabric. For a swimsuit to be this beautiful and this responsible feels like a genuine achievement.

How to Build a Jamie Kay Wardrobe

The secret to making Jamie Kay work beautifully is leaning into the colour palette. Each collection is designed around a cohesive set of tones — dusty pinks, warm creams, sage greens, soft blues — and pieces from the same collection mix and match without effort.

Start with one or two anchor pieces — a dress, a blouse — then build around them with simpler basics. A Jamie Kay blouse over simple white shorts. A tiered dress with plain white sandals. A patterned tee tucked into neutral linen trousers. The brand does the heavy lifting aesthetically; your job is simply to let the pieces breathe.
